There are people in the church and that includes Pastoral leaders, who are suffering from mental health issues such as, depression, bipolar, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc. It might be time for the church to rethink the way they care and treat people in their congregation who are suffering in silence from a mental health disorder. Although praying and reading scriptures can be an encouraging tool to help someone with his or her mental illness, it is not the only solution. Therefore, the “pray more and just snap out of it” theology needs to be reassessed. It is time for the church to discuss mental illness in a healthy way.
If you or anyone you know is suffering from a mental illness, please speak with your doctor, he or she will advise you.
